Jeep refreshed the Grand Cherokee for 2026 with new styling, a new standard turbo engine on most trims and a bigger screen. The 2027 keeps all of that and changes the edges: a larger screen on the entry trims, more equipment on the Limited, three added trims and a higher starting price. So the real question is not which year is better. It is which trim you want, and whether that trim exists in the year you are shopping.
Choose a 2026 if
- You want a Laredo Altitude, Limited or Summit and we have the configuration on the lot.
- Price matters most. The 2026 started $600 lower, and outgoing model years often carry extra incentives.
- You don't need the new Upland, Trailhawk or Overland trims.
Choose a 2027 if
- You're buying a Laredo or Laredo X and want the 10.1-inch screen instead of 8.4 inches.
- You want the Laredo Upland, or you're willing to wait for the returning Trailhawk or Overland.
- You want the Limited's added wireless charging and rain-sensing wipers, or the newest model year at trade-in time.
Remaining 2026 inventory thins out as 2027s arrive. If a specific 2026 is on your list, call before you drive over.

What stays the same
Everything that made the 2026 refresh worth buying carries straight into 2027:
- Engines: a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 (293 hp) on Laredo and Laredo X, and the 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 turbo (324 hp, 332 lb-ft) standard from Laredo Altitude up. Both use an eight-speed automatic.
- Towing: up to 6,200 pounds when properly equipped, enough for a small boat or a pair of personal watercraft headed to a Lake St. Clair launch.
- Styling and cabin: the refreshed seven-slot grille, slimmer LED lighting and the 12.3-inch screen on Laredo Altitude and above.
- 4x4 systems: the same Quadra-Trac family, which matters more than model year once the snow starts. Our Jeep 4x4 systems guide for Michigan winters explains which one you want.
One more thing that hasn't changed: the Grand Cherokee is built at Stellantis' Detroit Assembly Complex on Mack Avenue and Jefferson Avenue. Our store sits on Mack, too.
A third option: a nearly new 2026
We also carry late-model Grand Cherokees from the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program, vehicles that served as loaners and are sold with low miles. If you like the 2026 but want a lower price than new, they are worth a look. Read what a CTP vehicle is or shop CTP vehicles.
How we'd decide, from the sales floor
Start with the trim, not the year. Sit in a Laredo X and a Laredo Altitude back to back: the screen and engine difference is bigger than anything that changed between 2026 and 2027. Once you know your trim, compare the out-the-door price on both years. If the 2026 saves you real money and has what you want, it's the smarter buy. If you want an Upland or the newest Laredo screen, go 2027.

Questions we hear at the store
Is the 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee a redesign?
No. The 2027 builds on the 2026 refresh, which brought new styling, the Hurricane 4 turbo engine and a 12.3-inch screen on upper trims. For 2027 Jeep added a 10.1-inch screen to the Laredo and Laredo X, new wheels, more standard equipment on the Limited, and the Laredo Upland, Trailhawk and Overland trims.
Did the engines change for 2027?
No. The Laredo and Laredo X use the 3.6-liter V6 with 293 hp, and the Laredo Altitude and higher trims use the 2.0-liter Hurricane 4 turbo with 324 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Both years use an eight-speed automatic.
Is the 2027 Grand Cherokee more expensive than the 2026?
Yes, slightly. The 2027 starts at $41,515 including destination, $600 more than the 2026. Outgoing 2026 models may also carry different incentives, so compare the actual price of both years on the trim you want.
When will the 2027 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland arrive?
Jeep lists both as late availability for the 2027 model year. The Laredo Upland and the other 2027 trims are arriving first. Call us and we will tell you what is on order for our store.
How much can the Grand Cherokee tow?
Up to 6,200 pounds when properly equipped, for both the 2026 and 2027 model years.
Where is the Jeep Grand Cherokee built?
At Stellantis' Detroit Assembly Complex, at its Mack and Jefferson facilities in Detroit.
