CTP Vehicle vs New: Smart Buy? | Golling Grosse Pointe

Buying guide: Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program

CTP vehicle vs new: is a Stellantis courtesy vehicle a smart buy?

Low-mileage loaners that still qualify for every new-car rebate, plus additional rebates on most units. Here's when a CTP vehicle beats buying or leasing new, and what to check before you sign.

A CTP vehicle is a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram that served as a loaner in the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program, keeping our service customers moving while our Mopar® certified technicians worked on their own vehicles. After its time in the loaner fleet, it's sold with low miles, maintained by our own service department and backed by the factory warranty. On any given week we often have Compass, Ram 1500 and Grand Cherokee CTP units on the lot.

Here is what surprises most shoppers: CTP vehicles still qualify for all the new-car rebates and incentives, and most qualify for additional rebates on top. That's why a CTP vehicle is often the smarter buy, and why it can lease for less than the same vehicle new.

A CTP vehicle makes sense if

  • You want this year's or last year's model for a lower payment than new.
  • You're leasing. Additional CTP rebates can make the lease payment more attractive than a new-car lease.
  • The trim, color and options on the lot are close to what you'd choose.

Buy new if

  • You want a specific configuration, or to factory order one.
  • You want every day and mile of factory warranty from the day you take delivery.
  • You're counting on extended terms that apply only to the original owner of a new vehicle.

Why a CTP vehicle can lease for less than new

A lease payment is driven by the price of the vehicle after rebates, the residual value and the rate. A CTP vehicle starts with every rebate and incentive the same vehicle gets new. Most CTP vehicles then qualify for additional rebates on top of those. More money off the same model, in the same model year, can mean a lower payment than leasing that vehicle new.

Ask us to quote the same model two ways: new, and CTP. We'll show both payments side by side, with every rebate listed, so you can see exactly where the difference comes from.

The warranty: what actually carries over

A CTP vehicle is backed by the factory warranty, but the clock started when it entered loaner service, not when you buy it. On a Stellantis vehicle, the standard terms are a 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, both measured from that in-service date. A vehicle that has been in service for four months has roughly two years and eight months of basic coverage left, minus the miles it already has. For most lessees, whose lease ends inside the basic warranty, this matters less than it does for buyers who plan to keep the vehicle for years.

Shopping a 2026 Ram? New 2026 Ram trucks carry a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty for the original owner. If you plan to keep a truck long term, ask us to confirm in writing how powertrain coverage applies to a specific CTP Ram 1500. Our 2026 vs 2027 Ram 1500 guide explains the warranty change.

What to check on any CTP vehicle

  • Every rebate it qualifies for. New-car incentives plus any additional CTP rebates, listed on paper.
  • In-service date and remaining warranty. We'll show you both.
  • Odometer. Loaner miles vary from unit to unit, even on the same model.
  • Original window sticker. Know exactly which trim, packages and 4x4 system it was built with.
  • Service records. Our technicians maintained it, so the history is in our system.
  • Condition, inside and out. Loaners are driven by many people. Look at seats, cargo area and wheels.

Questions we hear at the store

What is a Stellantis CTP vehicle?

A CTP vehicle is a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram that served as a service loaner through the Stellantis Courtesy Transportation Program. After its time in the loaner fleet, it is sold with low miles, maintained by the dealer's service department and backed by the factory warranty.

Do CTP vehicles qualify for new car incentives?

Yes. CTP vehicles qualify for the new-car rebates and incentives available on that model, and most also qualify for additional rebates. Employee and Friends & Family pricing is available as well. Amounts and eligibility vary by model and program period.

Is it cheaper to lease a CTP vehicle than a new one?

Often, yes. Because a CTP vehicle gets the same new-car incentives plus, in most cases, additional rebates, its lease payment can be more attractive than leasing the same vehicle new. Ask us to quote both side by side.

Does a CTP vehicle come with a factory warranty?

Yes. A CTP vehicle carries the remainder of the factory warranty, measured from the date the vehicle was placed into loaner service. Standard Stellantis coverage is a 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty from that in-service date.

Who maintained a CTP vehicle?

At Golling CDJR of Grosse Pointe, our CTP vehicles are maintained by our own Mopar certified technicians while in the loaner fleet, so the service history is in our system.

What should I check before buying or leasing a CTP vehicle?

Check every rebate it qualifies for, the in-service date and remaining warranty, the odometer, the original window sticker, the service records and its condition. Then compare the payment to the same model new.

CTP vehicle availability, mileage and equipment vary. Rebates, incentives and Employee and Friends & Family pricing are subject to manufacturer program rules, vary by model and program period, and not all customers or vehicles will qualify. Lease payments depend on vehicle, term, mileage, credit approval and current programs; a CTP lease payment is not guaranteed to be lower than a new-vehicle lease. Factory warranty coverage begins on the vehicle's original in-service date; see dealer for remaining coverage and complete terms.
